For effectively using your mind, habits make all the difference.
Here's your first lesson, and an overview of the course. To become a creative problem solving master, you need to learn what to do, and then make those actions and thought-patterns into habits. The lessons:

2. Increase Your Brainpower.
3. Learn To Concentrate.
4. Develop Your Intuition.
5. Develop Your Creativity.
6. Put It All Together.
Training Your Mind To Solve Problems
Have you ever wondered why it's easy to negotiate a 3,000-pound car through traffic at 60 mph, but difficult to balance a checking account or find time to do something important? (Insert your own examples if these don't work for you.) It's probably due to your habits of mind.
It isn't actually easy to drive in traffic the first time. It takes all of your concentration. But by automating the actions - training your mind and body, you eventually can drive comfortably in freeway traffic, even while arguing with a talk show host on the radio (try doing that the first time you drive). Your habits have made you more efficient.
If you want to creatively solve problems, then, start by cultivating good habits. For example, pick a problem-solving technique, such as "assumption challenging," and use it for three weeks or so. If you don't have problems to solve every day (lucky you), make them up. Do this until your mind automatically applies the technique to problems as they arise.
Now imagine you are looking for a new chair design for restaurant seating. Your mind, now trained, immediately starts challenging assumptions. Are chair legs necessary? If the seats were extended from the wall, table, or ceiling, it would be easier to clean under them. Are chairs necessary? Has anyone tried a stand-up cafe? Less space is required.
Do you see how creating good habits of mind can save you time and mind-strain later?
Another example: What if every time your mind struggled with a problem, you unconsciously sat up straight and took a deep breath? These actions have been shown to improve brain function. Conscious discipline is required at first to train the mind, but the eventual result is greater brain power for less effort.
The coming lessons will show you what you need to learn and do. The free chapters from the ebook, "Problem Solving Power" will give you a few specific problem solving techniques to use. To be a more creative problem solver, just apply the lessons and use the techniques until they become "mind habits."
Until next lesson,
